Jeera pulao

Today I tried  one of the recommended rice variety, "Jeera pulao". As the name suggests, it's main elements are jeera + rice. It can be made simply by using available items at our Indian kitchen pantry. Please follow the below recipe,

Needed ingredients:( serving 4 people)
  • 2 1/2 cups of rice
  • 3 teaspoons of cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 full cardamom
  • 1 dried kapok bud (Marathi moggu)
  • 1 big sized onion - sliced
  • 2 green chilli - sliced
  • 1/2 inch ginger - fine chopped
  • quarter cup green peas (Optional)
  • 625 ml water
  • 10 teaspoon refined oil
  • Salt to taste

Wash the rice and soak it for 10-15 minutes. Heat 3 liter pressure cooker, add 10 teaspoons of oil. When it is hot, add jeera, bay leaves, cardamom, kapok bud, stir well. Add onion, green chilli, ginger, green peas(optional) and Saute it.

Once the onions are fried well, add water, salt and let it boil. Add rice and close the cooker with weight. Allow it to whistle twice and cut the heat.

Once the pressure is down, open and serve with fried papads.
